Q. How do I reach an officer?

A. If it is an emergency, Dial 911. Otherwise, The best way to reach an officer on duty is by calling the non-emergency dispatch (24 hour) number: 503-397-1521. The dispatch center can reach the officer by radio and ask them to return your call.

Q. Do you do fingerprints?

A. Yes. We do fingerprints on Wednesdays between the hours of 9:00 am to 12:00 pm and from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. There is a $10.00 per card charge. We have a supply of fingerprint cards, or if you have been provided one, bring it with you. We don't take appointments, and may not be able to accommodate you if an officer is not available.

Q. Where is the police department located?

A. We are located at 33568 E. Columbia Avenue in Scappoose, right next to City Hall. For a Google Map, click here.

Q. How can I request a police record?

A. You can download a Records Request form, or stop by the lobby and fill one out. The charge is $15.00 for records going back two years, or $40.00 for records older than two years. We need to receive payment prior to retreiving the records. If you download the form, please mail it to us along with your payment, or stop by and drop it off. Please note: Any reports involving a case that is under investigation can not be released without approval of the City Attorney, or Columbia County District Attorney (503)397-0300. For information on any reports involving a juvenile, you must contact the Columbia County Juvenile Department (503)397-0275. We do not release reports or information regarding juveniles - no exceptions.

Q. Do you have a reserve program?

A. At this time we do not have a reserve program, but are considering one and will update our website if we create one in the future.

Q. I have been involved in a traffic accident, should I call the police?

A. Provided that you have exchanged information with the other parties involved you do not need to notify the police. If there is an injury or the vehicle damage exceeds $1500.00 you must file an accident report with DMV. We no longer have DMV accident forms available, but you can download them from the Oregon DMV website.

Q. My car has been impounded, what do I do?

A. If your car is impounded, you will need to bring the following to the police department to obtain a release:

  1. Proof of Insurance
  2. Proof of ownership, such as a title or registration. If the title has been signed on the back indicating a release of ownership, DO NOT bring it in as proof of ownership. You must first take the title to the Department of Motor Vehicles to complete the transfer.
    If the owner of the vehicle cannot be present, we need a notarized letter, signed by the owner allowing another individual to retreive the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle (or the person authorized to pick up the vehicle) must bring photo ID. If your license has been confiscated, you must still bring photo ID.

  3. A driver with a valid license. If your vehicle was towed for driving while suspended, we will require TWO drivers be present when the vehicle is released.
  4. $100 Administrative Fee, in cash.

Q. What hours are officers on patrol?

A. The Scappoose Police Department has 24 hour police coverage, seven days a week. If you come to the police department after hours, there is a phone in front of the building that will connect you to dispatch where you can request an officer.

Q. Can I ride along with an officer?

A. You can request a ride-along by filling out a form and submitting it to the police department. We will consider your request and contact you to schedule your tour if the application is approved.
